Working Group: Phylogenomics
Working group chair: Craig Moritz, Australian National University
This project will provide highly resolved phylogenies of:
- rodents (led by Kevin Rowe, Museums Victoria)
- bats (led by Kyle Armstrong and Terry Bertozzi, University of Adelaide and South Australian Museum)
- marsupials (led by Mark Eldridge, Australian Museum)
We are using exon capture methods to generate high quality sequence data for 1000-2000 orthologous genes, from all mammals native to the Australo-Papuan region (around 500 taxa).
We aim to include representatives of recognised subspecies, as well as recently extinct species. Samples are being sourced from tissue and specimen collections already in Australian and international museums, including type specimens where possible.
